Students (ages 3 and up) have individual flute lessons, attend regular group lessons and have the opportunity to play in solo concerts and holiday workshops and festivals.
Purchasing an Instrument
Young students learn on a curved head flute, which by reducing the total length of the flute, makes flute possible to play for small people. For really small children, an even shorter and lighter specially-designed flute is available. A curved head flute will suit students up to approximately the age of 10, so they will be able to keep the same flute for many years.
Because Suzuki method is an aural approach which focuses on producing excellent tone from the earliest stages, it is essential to have a good quality instrument.
Parents are requested not to purchase a flute before starting lessons, as teachers will have recommendations on the size of flute to purchase, appropriate brands of flutes, and where to buy them.
Flute is popular for its beautiful singing sound, and has the advantage of being very portable. It is a very rewarding instrument to learn and Suzuki Music has highly trained and skilled flute teachers who offer the very best learning opportunities for children from the age of 3.
Suzuki flute students progress step by step from simple melodies through to more complex, longer pieces in the later books. The repertoire develops a broad range of musical skills, including energetic dance-style pieces and expressive melodic styles, nurturing deep musicality, a love of music and effortless ease.
With eleven published books and recordings, and a further list of advanced repertoire, refined by master teachers across the globe, the Suzuki flute repertoire offers a comprehensive program to develop students from the earliest stages through to university entry level and beyond.
Our student graduates include those who’ve pursued diverse careers in music alongside countless others who carry a deeply fulfilling musical ability and significant personal development into their adult lives.
The Suzuki approach offers unique opportunities for our youngest to oldest students through regular group playing, ensemble experiences and workshops with leading Australian and international flute teachers.
Suzuki Flute teachers are supported in their ongoing learning by taking part in regular professional teacher training programs and workshops.
